The title is the second half of a quote I recently discovered on the packaging of a necklace I bought myself. The philosopher Francis Bacon said, "Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake." Never in my life has such an inspiring quote come at such a perfect time - a time when motivation is needed more than ever.
I find myself complaining these days, much more often than I'd like. I'm sure it's a burden to those around me and it certainly doesn't improve my mood in any way. The only thing that will improve it is focusing on change. Focusing on making my life what I want it to be. No more settling, no more second-guessing. This is it. Do or die.
When I purchased the necklace, I had it wrapped at the store with the intention to give it away as a gift, and then this morning decided that it was I that needed the gift from myself. For so long I have been focusing on the happiness of others, I lost the ability to be the happiness in my own life. I have fallen out of love with myself, and that is not acceptable for the life I'd like to lead. After opening the gift, I read the quote and knew that I had made the right move. The necklace is a simple thread with a small gold star. I will be wearing it indefinitely as a reminder of the quote on the packaging.. a reminder that I definitely can begin doing what I want.
